hello,

The Future

In Uncategorized on November 25, 2009 at 2:31 pm

I think my classmate mentioned something in class that i totally agreed with.

“Soon social media will become so cluttered that it will phase out, as people respect privacy.”

I so totally agree with it. If you say it can’t and won’t, please please tell my why?

I mean in the future, consumers = gatekeepers! we’re kings. what we want is what corporations care about. So we dont want ads annoying the shit out of us and this includes sending messages, inviting us to be fans, twitter updates, etc.

Maybe its just me, i was well-trained since i was young to just skip through ads and completely ignore them. Mainly print ones. Like TV ads some of them are really good.

But come on, have you seen the ads on channel 5 nowadays?

what were they thinking? Seriously?

Hahahaha.

Anyway, what my classmate said really struck a chord. I mean social media has become more of a business media. The corporate jungle in the virtual world.

Gone were the days blogging was just a virtual diary. Personal but just more convenient. Now, the whole world can find your blog. There goes privacy.

I mean thats the bad thing bout technology, sometimes it goes in a direction against you and there’s nothing you can do but sigh.

I wont be surprise a new networking site would come up that is free of ads and companies are not allowed to promote the products/services. Or maybe it’s already out?

I think i’ll switch to that.

I think corporates should get their lazy, technology-dependent butts up and get out there, doing real-life observations, studies rather than rely on Social Media. Cause i think once it phases out and people see it as a negative thing. Where’d ya gonna go?

And also its kinda rude to monitor people and stuff. I don’t think its impressive at all that if you reply to a thread and they can CALL YOU UP on your handphone, etc.

So yeah. Just a thought. What happened to ethics? Why are we switching to online platforms? Why aren’t we revolutionizing the mediums we already have? Why give up and just go to the next best thing without trying?

Music Industry

In Uncategorized on November 25, 2009 at 2:07 pm

Illegal downloads and various platforms to listen to your music online, inevitably killed CDs.

No doubt, the music industry is going through a huge phase right now, the transition between traditional distribution of music to the distribution of music online.

Does this mean CDs will stop production? Musicians will no longer release CDs that eager fans will queue up for?

NO!

I feel that CDs will live on, but perhaps decrease in the amount produced. Personally, i feel that if you really like the band, like really really, you should get their CD. OR AT LEAST purchase their music online or something.

I bought Muse’s The Resistance Album the first day it released in Singapore. Huge fan by the way.

I mean who are we kidding right? How often does your favourite band tour Singapore? What are the chances you would get to see them physically?

If they do, like muse will be, don’t hesitate bout going, just go!

A wise friend one said, “I don’t wanna die and go to heaven to tell all the people that the only live band i’ve seen was some local house band at a pub, thats not cool!”

that made sense to me, to a certain extent.

Back to the point, CDs…

I believe, in the future CDs would become like vinyls, they become collector’s items. And music would be sold in other various ways other than just online.

A classmate pointed out that it could be possible for you as a consumer to purchase music with your thumbdrive. So basically you head to a music store, purchase a thumb drive and in the store itself there will be computers according to genres, bands, etc. And you can just ‘steal’ the music from there. But paying a fee prior to copying those files into the thumbdrive.

In my opinion, i feel that that could be very much possible.

I’ve came up with 2 types of musicians in the world.

1) those who only care bout reach

2) those who only care bout the benefits, e.g. $$$

sad to say i can’t fit any bands into any of the categories. Cause its pretty unknown to me their motive of getting into the whole music business.

But i feel, if i had to chose between the two, i’d chose reach for sure! not trying to be humble or anything. Just plain honest.

I’d rather play for a crowd of 10,000 then sell 10,000 copies of my latest album.

I’ve seen some bands that are pretty much into it for just the fame and attention and i feel its rather pathetic that they do get it while real musicians are working their socks off to produce top quality material for audiences.

It’s should not be about the gimmick, but purely the music.

Good thing for musicians, there are so many platforms to showcase your music, bad thing is there are so many people for you to compete against!

I’m no expert but my advise would be, be unconventional, do something out of the norm (this includes using the various platforms others use), MAKE SURE YOU WILL GET HEARD!

For labels, you guys better start thinking out of the box, the world is changing. And change should not be ignored but embraced.

Way of the world my friends.

Thoughts of a Dying Ignorant

Well, Pat law gave us an insightful lecture about how to use certain social mediums to our advantage if we end up in the media industry.

I think what i liked about it was that at the end of the lecture i was given sort of a wake up call, like:

“Hey dumbass, if you wanna be in the media industry you gotta be involved in this shit! You can’t escape it, this is it man the future of the media industry lies in social media”.

It was probably more vulgar. haha

But anyway, a classmate told me before school started that we had to open up a twitter and a blog account and that we’re gonna be graded for it. I never understood people who blog about their lives and shit like that, i always thought they were insecure and lonely cause it seems like they had nobody to talk to.

Honest!

Then i was told to blog on stuff to like brand myself.

Another thing that i thought was dumb. No offence to anyone. HAHA!

But yeah, probably cause i’m not used to like talking bout myself and what are my strengths, talents and shit like that.

One reason why i hate job interviews. I can’t talk about myself in a serious way. I mean i’d rather bring a friend to an interview if i could and let him/her do all the talking.

And yes, i’m not confident and comfortable of putting myself in a very formal, serious spot.

But well, in my opinion the guest lecture actually just stress the fact that there’s no escape from social media and that it is just that damn effective for organisations to know their audience.

It’s so much better then surveys i suppose?

I mean i always thought it was lame, twitter, blogging and stuff. I mean who really cares right? But corporates do care.

And from my point of view, contrary to the term social media, i guess its extremely advantageous for organisations and all those corporates that WE engage in social media.

But its also important for the future WE who might end up in the related industries.

:D
